Mentone’s “Back In The Day” Themed Parade
MENTONE — The 2016 Mentone Egg Festival took place June 2 through June 4. The parade of the festival was accompanied by cloudy skies on Saturday, June 4, yet this did not scare the loyal spectators.
The “Back In The Day” themed parade was opened by the fire, police and medical department vehicles, blasting their sirens. Fire and ambulance cars used “back in the day” were driven along with the modern vehicles.
Miss Mentone 2016, Tahya Lybarger rode on the back of a truck. Reigning Mr. Rooster and reigning Miss Chick were escorted in the parade as well. The Parade Marshal, Lois Miller, was driven on a 1980s white Cadillac.
Jack & Jill Preschool, Tippecanoe Valley Aquatic Club and Tippecanoe Valley Viking Guard also presented their groups and outfits at the parade. The Tippecanoe Valley Middle School cheerleading team performed a cheer in front of the crowd.
The Grass Creek Lions Club maneuvered their way on go-carts. In contrast to the “mini-cars,” a semi-truck, presenting Eggspress, galumphed down the road.
Towards the end of the parade, a variety of colorful tractors drove by. As all the clubs, teams and individuals passed down East Main Street of Mentone, candy was thrown towards the people gathered along the sides of the road.
