Madelyn ‘Virginia’ Graff
Madelyn “Virginia” Graff, 91, Syracuse, passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Warsaw Meadows Nursing Home in Warsaw. She was born on Feb. 4, 1925 in Wheeling, W.V. to William James and Nellie Jane (Nash) Downing.
She attended Washington High School in Wheeling, W.V. and moved to Milford and Syracuse area in 1944 from West Virginia. She was a homemaker and on March 11, 1944 in Crown Point, she married James Stanley Graff who preceded her on March 1, 1986.
She was a former member of the Grace Bible Baptist Church in New Paris.
She is survived by her daughter: Christine Vetter, Wetumpka, Ala.; son: Phillip (Linda) Graff, Syracuse; 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; a daughter in law: Carol Graff, Leesburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons: Kenneth “Jim” Graff and Daniel Graff; infant sister: Anna May Downing; three brothers: Charles, Bill, and Jack Downing; and son in law: Stanley Vetter.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.–1 p.m. on Friday, June 3 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. on Friday in Syracuse Cemetery with Phil Graff officiating.
