Rice Named ML Player Of The Week
EASTLAKE, Ohio – South Bend Cubs catcher Ian Rice has been named the Midwest League’s Player of the Week.
The 22-year old catcher last week hit .471 with a .550 on-base percentage plus three home runs and eight driven in.
Rice belted his first professional two-home run game on May 28 versus Lansing while driving in a career high five.
The University of Houston product this season is hitting .368 with three home runs and 13 driven in.
This is the second straight week that a South Bend player has won the Midwest League Player of the Week. Last week outfielder Eloy Jimenez claimed the honor.
