Ivy Tech Hosts Medical Summer Camp
WARSAW — Ivy Tech in partnership with the Kosciusko County Economic Development Corporation, National Area Health Education Center and Grace College and five area school districts have created a Health Care Occupations Summer Camp.
The summer camp is being held from May 31 to June 2, and is offering a chance for local students to get acquainted with career opportunities in the medical field. “The purpose is to educate students in rural communities about opportunities in health care, with the hope that those students will not only chose a career in the field but also come back to serve in their community,” said Barbara MacMillan, dean of Division of Health Sciences.
The summer camp offers classes in Pharmacy, respiratory care, paramedic science, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, dental hygiene and more.
While this is the first time that the summer camp has happened, MacMillan said that she’d like to make it an annual event. If the camp comes back next year Macmillan said, “They can find out how to get involved next year through their own school.”
“I’m interested in going into paramedic and EMT,” said Josh Moore, a Lakeview Middle School student preparing to enter Warsaw Community High School next August. “I’m learning a lot … I’m excited for the rest of the camp,” Moore continued.
