Cubs Walk Off With Another Win
SOUTH BEND – On a night where the pitchers dominated, Eloy Jimenez hit the second pitch of the bottom of the ninth over the left field fence to send South Bend past the Lansing Lugnuts 1-0 at Four Winds Field.
Jimenez has now delivered three of the six South Bend Cubs walk-offs this year. The 19-year old hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth April 11 in a 7-6 South Bend win over Bowling Green. Then on April 24th a single by Jimenez in the tenth sent the Cubs to a 7-6 win over Fort Wayne.
Jimenez home run also extended his hitting streak to a career high 16 games.
South Bend had no answers for Lansing starter Angel Perdomo who allowed just a first inning infield single to Daniel Spingola over seven scoreless innings.
Cubs starter Carson Sands got a no decision after six scoreless innings while striking out a season high five.
Craig Brooks tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth innings for South Bend. Scott Effross earned the win after hanging a zero in the ninth.
South Bend is now 31-17 and have won eight of their last nine and 10 of their last 13. The Cubs are now a season-high 14 games over the five hundred mark and lead the East by three games over West Michigan.
The fourth and final game of the four game series is Monday at 2:05 on 96.1fm WSBT. The Cubs will pitch Justin Steele (3-5, 6.19) versus the Lugnuts Ryan Borucki (1-1, 2.12).
