Robert Vance Abbott
Robert Vance Abbott, 83, Warsaw, formerly of Columbia City, died at 1:54 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Parkview Hospital, Wabash.
He was born March 26, 1933, to Oscar V. and Ruth A. (Sutherland) Abbott. He graduated from Leesburg High School with the class of 1951. On Dec. 18, 1955, he married Marjorie I. Huffman; she preceded him in death in 2000.
Robert served in the U.S. Navy aboard an aircraft carrier during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post 253, North Webster. He worked as a security guard for Fairmont Homes, Nappanee.
Surviving are a son, John (Jill) Earl, Columbia City; three sisters: Deloris June Abbott, Auburn, Doris Jean Sewell, Columbia, Tenn., and Linda (Ron) Pekerul, Burlington, Conn.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Teresa Chappel, in 2006; a brother, John Abbott, in 1962; and sisters: Mary LaRue in 1995 and Carolyn Taylor in 2004.
Services are set for noon Tuesday, May 31, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Bob Jarboe, chaplain, Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice, officiating. Visitation is for one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, after the funeral service, with military graveside honors by the North Webster American Legion Post 253.
