Milford Public Library Announces Summer Events
Closed on Memorial Day
We will be closed Monday, May 30 for Memorial Day. Come to the Milford Memorial Day Parade at 10 a.m. and watch us march in the parade. We will reopen on Tuesday, May 31 at 10 a.m. Happy Memorial Day!
Fouts Retires
Sharon Fouts, part time clerk in the adult department, is retiring on May 31. Mrs. Fouts was an employee of the Elwood Public Library for approximately fourteen years. She began her library career as a part-time clerk, became a full-time clerk, and in 1995 became the Youth Services Manager at Elwood.
Mrs. Fouts was hired as a part-time clerk for the Milford Public Library in October, 2002. She has been a wonderful asset to our library staff. We have benefitted from her twenty-eight years of library experience. Everything Mrs. Fouts does, she gives one hundred percent. Please stop in and wish Mrs. Fouts a happy retirement and thank her for her years of dedicated service. We will serve punch and cookies all day on the 31st in honor of Sharon’s retirement. She will be missed!
New Summer Clerks
Our new summer clerks have started working at the library! Please welcome Meghan Beer and Kayla Nyce to our staff. Meghan is finishing her sophomore year at Wawasee High School. She is active in soccer, gymnastics and dance. Meghan will be our adult clerk to help us through the busy summer season.
Kayla is graduating from Wawasee this month. We look forward to using Kayla’s skills with technology and knowledge of various genres of books. She enjoys reading and will assist in the children’s department. We are excited to have them join our staff.
Afternoon Knitting Club
Knitting Club meets on Friday, June 3 from 1:30 p.m 3:30 p.m. in the teen area of the library. Bring a knitting project and get help from experienced knitters. Learn how to knit or continue working on a current project.
Summer Reading Program 2016
This year’s reading themes are: “Get in the Game, READ!” for teens (going into sixth grade through graduating seniors) and “Ready, Set, READ!” for children (preschool through fifth grade). Feel free to come in and get signed up for a summer of reading fun beginning June 6.
We really want you to join us for our reading program kick-off on June 8 at 2 p.m. at the Milford Community Building. Mr Jim will present a program called Sport Cup Stacking. This is a hands-on program that will build on skills such as coordination, concentration, motivation, determination, perseverance, team-work and more. All ages are invited to come.
After the show, you can sign up for the Summer Reading Club and get started earning prizes. Learn about our events going on all summer long! Ask for a Summer Reading Brochure at either circulation desk. It is filled with all the information you need to make plans for a fun and exciting summer.
There is no reason to be bored when there is so much to do at the library! Earn prizes and have fun with your friends while reading books! We love to promote reading and fun here at the library, and with such an active, exhilarating program planned, you will definitely have fun this summer! We hope to see you around the library!
Audiobook Appreciation Month
Audiobooks are convenient for people who enjoy keeping up with the book world but do not have the time, ability or possibly even the desire to pick up a hard copy of a book. June is National Audiobook Month, so why not select an audiobook to listen to?
Our collection is continuously growing with new titles added regularly. Audiobooks can be obtained as a physical copy, like a book on CD. They are also becoming more readily available in digital format, like downloadable formats or electronic lending. The library has many great titles available as audiobooks.
Come in and browse our audiobook titles, including “A Spool of Blue Thread” by Anne Tyler, “After the Red Rain” by Barry Lyga and “Go Set A Watchman” by Lee Harper. Library Staff would be happy to help you access eBooks through OverDrive. Bring your device to the library and ask someone at the circulation desk to help you set up an account. Celebrate Audio Book Appreciation Month by borrowing some great titles today!
