Milford Fest Retakes The Streets Of Town
MILFORD — While many consider Memorial Day weekend the official kickoff to summer, residents of Milford also associate the holiday with another tradition — Milford Fest. The annual event, sponsored by the Milford Lions Club, takes over the streets of downtown Saturday, May 28, with events taking place from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., rain or shine.
Milford Kiwanis Club will start the day with its traditional pancake and sausage breakfast at the Milford Community Building from 6 to 10 a.m. This event serves as morning fuel for the rest of the day’s entertainment and activities taking place throughout town.
Children are sure to enjoy the carnival on Main Street, which includes free rides from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. that are sponsored by a variety of local businesses. They also can try their hand at pony riding from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as Cap Beer brings his herd to town for the annual event.
If you didn’t get enough to eat at the breakfast, Milford firemen will be selling their popular rib-eye steak sandwiches beginning at 11 a.m. at the fire station. Get one quickly, however, as they are sure to sellout, as usual.
Registration forms can be found online for the Cutie Contest for kids ages 2-5. It takes place on the stage at 10 a.m. Kids must be residents of the Milford School district, although they can also be registered under a grandparent’s address within the boundaries. Entrants must check in between 9:15 to 9:45 a.m.
Everyone is invited to bring their unique abilities to the streets of town for the talent show that takes the stage at 3 p.m. with check-in from 2:30 to 2:45. Preregistration is requested with forms available for both the Cutie Contest and the talent contest at www.milford-indiana.org, or they can be picked up at the Milford Public Library or Milford Town Hall.
Live entertainment will be on stage throughout the day, including Living Word providing gospel music from 11 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.; Blue Moon offering a variety of easy listening music from 12:30 to 2 p.m.; and DJ Greenhhovs spinning a mix of grooves from 2:15 to 3 p.m.
Another favorite activity is checking out the car/tractor/motorcycle show taking over Main Street north of Catherine Street. Registration is from 9 to 11 a.m. with awards art 3 p.m. While you’re in that area checking out the vehicles, stop by and peruse the Friends of the Milford Library’s book sale taking place on the library lawn from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Food and craft vendors, as well as the community wide garage sale will be available for your shopping and spending pleasure.
The day’s activities continue and conclude with a street dance featuring Ripchord from 5 to 9 p.m.
“I’m excited how great Milford Fest has become,” said the event’s chairperson Tricia Gall. “It’s such a fun event because of the Lions Club, the town of Milford, local businesses and individuals have come together to support it and make it such a success. It’s nice to see everyone come out and enjoy the day. Come out and prepare to have fun!”
