Warsaw Sectional: Memorial, Concord Post Wins
WARSAW – The Elkhart Memorial and Concord softball teams earned opening round wins in the Class 4-A Warsaw Sectional Monday night.
Memorial defeated Goshen 6-1 in the opener and Concord outscored Elkhart Central 12-10 in the nightcap.
Memorial will face Concord tonight (May 24) at 5:30 p.m. in a semifinal game. Warsaw will then play Northridge in the second semifinal tonight. The semifinal games were moved from Wednesday night to tonight due to the threat of inclement weather. The championship game is still scheduled for Friday night.
Shakira Perez carried the Crimson Chargers to victory Monday night. The seniors had three hits, including a double, and drove in five runs.
Kim Lucas was strong in the circle for Memorial as she fired a complete game three-hitter with nine strikeouts and three walks.
Concord outscored Central in a wild one in the second game. Central led 7-2 after two innings before the Minutemen rallied for the win. Concord scored three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good.
Audrey D’Arcy led Concord with four hits, including a triple, to go with four RBI. Styler Decker had three hits and three RBI and McKenzie Loge three hits and two RBI for the winners.
