Whitko Softball: ‘Cats Split With Norwell
SOUTH WHITLEY – In a quality matchup ahead of the sectional, Whitko split its final regular season softball games Saturday against Norwell. The Knights won game one, 2-1, while the Wildcats took the second game 5-3.
Game one saw both teams go scoreless for seven innings, only for Norwell to get a pair of runs in the top half of the eighth and Whitko only able to get one back.
Kaycee Strunk and Brielle Wilson scored for Norwell in the eighth, the only blemishes on a fine game thrown by Ellie Snep, who allowed just five hits in the game. Snep struck out four in the complete game.
Whitko had an RBI single from Haley Yohe in the bottom of the eighth. Emalee Duggins and Emily Hughes each had two hits in the game for Whitko.
Game two stats were not immediately provided.
Whitko sits at 15-7 overall with a 5 p.m. Tuesday matchup with North Miami in the Oak Hill Sectional. The winner will get either TRC champion Manchester or host Oak Hill in the sectional semis Wednesday. The Oak Hill championship game is set for 7 p.m. Saturday.
