Triton Softball: Trojans Finish Third At HNAC
LAKEVILLE – After a weekend of softball, the first running of the Hoosier North Athletic Conference concluded with Winamac on top at Newton Park.
The Warriors, coming in as the three-seed, upset top seed and undefeated Pioneer, 6-5, in the championship game. Triton, the four-seed, finished third after losing to Pioneer in the semis and coming back to beat two-seed Knox in its final game.
Pioneer, ranked No. 6 in the Class 1-A poll, scored 10 runs in the first two innings in the Triton matchup. Seven Panthers had at least two hits, led by three apiece from Mikenna Landis and Alyssa Shaw. Ashley Miller added three RBIs, Haley Gleitz scored three runs and Alexis Robinson hit a home run in the onslaught.
Taytum Hargrave had three singles and scored a run for Triton, driven in by Megan Berger.
Hargrave continued to punish the ball in Triton’s third-place game against Knox, collecting four hits, scoring three times and driving in two. Among the ruckus was a double and two triples for the speedy sophomore.
Nicole Sechrist had three hits, including her sixth bomb of the year, and scored three runs. Berger had two more RBIs for the Trojans, which had 17 hits overall.
Triton, 14-11 overall, will head into Monday’s Triton Softball Sectional where it will host Lakewood Park Christian in the second game. Bethany Christian and Elkhart Christian meet in game one, set for 6 p.m.
