Cubs Club Captains
EASTLAKE, OHIO – South Bend used a four-run cushion to beat Lake County 6-4 Sunday afternoon.
The Cubs used the long ball again to defeat the Captains, with homers from Donnie Dewees, Eloy Jimenez and Eddy Martinez. Jimenez and Martinez went back-to-back in the first inning, Jimenez’s shot a two-run blast. Dewees went deep in the fifth.
Martinez and PJ Higgins each added RBIs for the Cubs, which move to 25-16 overall.
Preston Morrison worked five innings to get his third win of the season for South Bend, giving up just one earned run and striking out five. Thomas Pannone lasted just 2.2 innings for the Captains, on the hook for four earned runs.
The Cubs are 8-5 on the current 14-game road trip which wraps up Monday at Lake County, a 6:30 p.m. start. The first place Cubs are looking to sweep the Captains to move three games clear in the Midwest League Eastern Division.
