Isabelle L. Maggart
Isabelle L. Maggart, 96, a resident of Columbia City, and formerly of rural LaOtto, passed away at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2016, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Columbia City, where she had been a patient for over two years.
Isabelle was born in Collins, on April 15, 1920, a daughter of Frank E. and Clara B. (Gebert) Deutsch. She spent her formative years in the Collins-area and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1937.
On December 24, 1940, she was married in Williamstown, Kentucky to Ferrold Maggart. A homemaker, she spent much of her adult life on the family farm in Swan Township near Ege, for 40 years until moving to Columbia City, in 1990.
She was a member of the Beacon Light Chapel, east of Churubusco, Columbia City Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary Aerie 1906, and the Green Township Homemakers. In her leisure time she enjoyed spending time playing cards and other activities at the Whitley County Senior Center.
Mr. Maggart preceded her in death on May 23, 2000.
The surviving relatives include her son: James R. (Gloria) Maggart of LaOtto; and Jeanne (Mark) Pankop of Kendallville; four grandchildren Amy (Andrew) Geallis, Mike (Sharon Platt) Maggart, Wendy (John) Albright, and Mary (Frederick) Woodward; seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters: Crystal Shively, Katherine Nace, Virginia Owens, and Mabel Henderson; four brothers: Lloyd Deutsch, Gerald Deutsch, Virgil Deutsch, and Clifford Deutsch; and by a grandson: Andrew Maggart.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco, with Rob McNary and Jeff Harker officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
