Trojans Advance At HNAC
Triton used at four-run third inning to pull away from Caston in a 7-1 final Friday at the Hoosier North Athletic Conference softball tournament.
An RBI single from Courtney Jennings and a two-run double from Megan Berger got the Trojans going in the third. Berger later scored on a passed ball in the inning.
Jennings and Heather Stichter added RBIs and Kayla Kreft chipped in an RBI double for the Trojans. Taytum Hargrave scored three runs.
Jennings was sharp in the circle, giving up just two hits in the complete game, striking out five.
Triton advances to play Pioneer in the HNAC semi-finals. Pioneer, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, didn’t lost in HNAC play this season, and sits with a lofty No. 6 ranking in Class 1-A. First pitch is set for noon Saturday at Newton Park.
Triton Ends HNAC On High Note
Triton closed HNAC baseball play at 9-7 with a 5-4 win over Culver Friday afternoon.
After taking a 2-1 lead into the seventh, Triton gave up three runs in the top of the inning, only to come back and score two in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. After holding the Cavs off the scoreboard in the eighth, Triton plated a run in the bottom to walk off with the win.
Zac Pitney led Triton with three hits and an RBI, and Dylan Hensley had a pair of hits and got the walk-of hit, a bases loaded single.
Hensley commanded the mound for the Trojans, working all eight innings, giving up six hits and five walks, but fanned 13 Culver batters.
Triton (10-12) had eight hits in the game, but coaxed 13 walks and struck out just once.
Triton and Argos will play a doubleheader Saturday at Argos.
