Alice V. Harshman McGaugh
Alice V. Harshman McGaugh, 97, South Whitley, died at 1 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Timbercrest, North Manchester where she had been a resident since June of 2014.
She was born Oct. 26, 1918 in South Whitley, a daughter of the late Ervin Ray and Marvel B. (Dimmick) Stump. She spent her formative years in South Whitley and completed her schooling at South Whitley High School.
In Aug. of 1957, she was united in marriage to Rod McGaugh. They always made their home in South Whitley. Mr. McGaugh died in 1979.
She was employed by the former Gene’s SuperValu, South Whitley for 21 years, and in later years, a seasonal worker for Stumps/Shindigz, South Whitley.
She was a former member of the South Whitley Church of God, more recently the Collamer Christian Church, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 2919, South Whitley.
An accomplished seamstress, she did interior work for Whitley Manufacturing prefabricated buildings, she enjoyed cooking, housework and cared for her parents in their senior years.
She is survived by a daughter: Martha (Eddie) Myers, South Whitley; eight grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; and a brother: Harold Stump, Tempe, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by two sons: Daniel and Paul Harshman; two brothers: Gene and Robert Stump; and a granddaughter: Laura Lyn Harshman
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the South Whitley Food Bank or the Collamer Christian Church.
