Richard E. Boyer — UPDATED
Richard E. “Dick” Boyer, 76, Warsaw, died at 12:10 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2016 in his Warsaw residence.
He was born Aug. 10, 1939 in Warsaw, to Samuel Franklin Boyer and Emma (Tompkins) Boyer. He married Jeannine Stamper Feb. 3, 1962 at First Baptist Church of Warsaw. They were married for 54 years.
He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1957 and enlisted in the United States Navy and entered into active service Aug. 7, 1957 as a machinist mate on the USS Carter Hall in the Pacific. E-5 Richard Eugene Boyer was honorably discharged Oct. 20, 1960 at U.S. Naval Station in Long Beach, Calif.
His family and grandchildren were his love; he enjoyed fishing, camping and was a passionate golfer-especially with his friend Phil Cartwright and his golf buddies in Berrien Springs. He was very creative and was a member of the Pierceton American Legion Post 258. Even after a 1967 auto accident left him legally blind he graduated from Purdue at IU Purdue Fort Wayne with an Associate Degree in Computer Science.
He is survived by his wife: Jeannine Boyer, Warsaw; three daughters: Laurie (Vern) Fredericks, Warsaw; Lisa (Ryan) Frauhiger, Bluffton; Lindy (Darrell) Dingess, Larwill; a son: Troy (Nanyamka) Boyer, Texas; nine grandchildren: Sarah Fredericks, Warsaw; Jordan Fredericks, Warsaw; Shanda (Steve) Kopp, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Matthew (Jessica) Thomas, Savannah, Ga.; Lucas (Thomas), Kalamazoo; Justin Shockley, Holden, Mo.; T.J. Boyer, Texas; Tatiana Boyer, Texas; Trinity Boyer, Texas; one step grandson: Dewayne Dingess, Royal Center; three step great grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild.
Preceded in death by his parents: Samuel and Emma Boyer; two sisters: Mary Heisler; Esther Prater; one brother: Tommy Boyer; one step granddaughter: Tammy Thomas.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Thursday May 19 and 11 a.m., Friday, May 20 at Titus Funeral Home. Pastor Steve Rahn of First Baptist Church of Warsaw and Pastor Bob Brown of God’s Highway to Heaven church will officiate. Military Honors will be performed by American Legion Post 258 from Pierceton. Memorials may be made to the family and will be used at their discretion.
