Wawasee Sports Wrap: May 16
Baseball
The Wawasee baseball team was on the wrong end of a late-inning loss Monday evening. The Warriors traveled to Goshen to take on the RedHawks and led through most of the contest before ultimately falling 8-3.
Wawasee carried a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning only to see Goshen score seven runs to grab the victory.
The Warriors grabbed the early lead thanks, in part, to Lucas Garza who had two solo shots. Garza was 3-4 at the plate while Rieder Hunley was 2-3. Jacob Garcias took the loss for the Warriors after pitching five innings.
Wawasee (5-17-1, 1-11) will play at Fairfield Tuesday night.
Softball
The Wawasee softball team rolled to yet another win Monday night. The Lady Warriors escaped a tight game with Goshen to secure a 3-2 win.
Wawaee hit the ball well all night but had several deep drives held up by a strong wind that blew in towards home plate all night. The ladies, however, were able to protect a 3-0 lead even after a late run from the RedHawks.
Allissa Flores, Cristina DeLaFuente and Danielle Gunkel all had an RBI for Wawasee. Meghan Fretz pitched all seven innings for the Warriors and recorded seven strikeouts.
Wawasee is now 21-4 on the year, 12-1 in Northern Lakes Conference play and will travel to Concord Wednesday night.
