North Webster Chamber Welcomes New Board Members
NORTH WEBSTER — New board members were welcomed by the North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce at the monthly general meeting Monday, May 16, at the North Webster American Legion Post 253. They are Terry Frederick, Webster Lake Conservation Association and The Watershed Foundation; Jim Smith, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department; and Chris Lusso, Clearwater Carpentry Unlimited.
The trio will join current board members Sue Ward, Sue’s Creations; David Colquitt, Eastlund Funeral Home; Helen Leinbach, North Webster Community Center; Stacey Cox, Pletcher Insurance; Ben Ashpole updenity.com; and Theresa Davenport, One Call Water.
Other board members are Jen Ducey, Tippecanoe Township; Jeremy Likens, North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Fire Department; Karilyn Metcalf, Dixie Sternwheeler Inc.; Brenda Peterson, Lake City Bank; and Martha Stoelting and Susan Stump, both of The Papers Inc.
The board directs the efforts of the chamber of commerce in achieving its mission which is, “Helping to build a stronger community by promoting local businesses and area opportunities for growth.”
Dixie Day Festival and Art Fair planning is forging ahead according to cochairmen Ward and Stoelting. It will be held Saturday, July 30. The Dixie Day 5K is set to go. Ward noted, “Applications are coming in for both food and artisan vendors already.” 5K, vendor and artisan applications are available at www.northwebster.com. Peterson is the chairman of the 5K and Cox is in charge of food vendors and Ward and Stoelting head the art fair.
North Webster Community Guides are now available for 2016-17 and are being placed around town for the public to pick up. It highlights what North Webster has to offer for visitors and local residents and includes a community calendar, business directory, lake maps, and information about community events and organizations. It is free.
Published by The Papers Inc., the new edition features a yellow cover honoring the Indiana Bicentennial with an aerial photo of North Webster and Webster Lake. The Papers Inc. donated $500 to the chamber upon publication as a thank you.
Stoelting shared “Our Town: North Webster” had been shown May 15, was being shown May 16 and at 4:30 p.m. May 22 on WNIT-South Bend PBS station. This is the second group of showing for the program that is a snapshot of the area during the summer of 2015.
President Ward announced the Business of the Month for May is Rhodes Insurance Agency. It has been serving North Webster for 46 years as an independent insurance agency offering all kinds of policies. At the helm are Joan Rhodes and John Leek. The chamber recognizes a business each month that has gone above and beyond in serving customers and the community.
A sample survey from Kosicusko Economic Development Corporation was passed around for approval and to be filled in. A seminar will be set up shortly through KEDCO for local businesses working with board member Ashpole. He also reported the chamber’s PayPal account is up and running.
The chamber’s shoe drive has been completed and the shoes have been shipped off. Ward thanked all involved in completing the fundraising project.
Leinbach reported no one had applied for the part time data entry position. The chamber will consider year round or summer help. Those interested should contact Leinbach, (574) 457-7122.
