James Louis Moore
James (Jim) Louis Moore, Syracuse, died Friday, May 13, 2016, from the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Jim was born May 30, 1937 in Wadsworth, Ohio to Homer Dwight and Thelma (Cypher) Moore.
Jim is survived by a younger sister Kathi (Ken) West of Knoxville, Tenn.; his wife of 54 years, Barbara (Stahly) Moore; and three children: Meg (Tom) Csenar, John (Kim) Moore, Beth (Todd) Nunemaker; and six grandchildren: Katelyn Csenar, Rachel Csenar, Brenan Moore, Brooklyn Moore, Nate Nunemaker, and Betsy Nunemaker.
Jim graduated from Staunton Military Academy in West Virginia in 1955, and attended Ohio State University. Jim served in the United States Army as a sportswriter for the “Stars and Stripes” while stationed in Japan. Jim owned and managed Rittman’s Department Store in Rittman, Ohio and Jim Moore Motors, Inc. in Nappanee. Jim was a General Motors auto dealer for 27 years. He was a member of the Nappanee First Brethren Church and 25-year member of the Nappanee Rotary Club, where he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow.
Jim will be remembered for his love of Canadian fishing, Florida, travel, piloting his plane, laughter, family and faith.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday, May 21, at Thompson-Lengacher Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the 4 p.m. memorial service on Sunday, May 22 at Nappanee First Brethren Church. Pastor Tom Schiefer will officiate. Military Services will follow.
Memorial contributions may be given to Center for Hospice Care or Nappanee First Brethren Church.
