Baseball Team Tops Squires
The Tippecanoe Valley offense was clicking Friday night.
The Vikings piled up 17 hits in outscoring Manchester 10-8 in Three Rivers Conference action.
Valley scored runs in five of the seven innings, including four in the third frame, to top the host Squires. Manchester had eight hits in the contest.
Alec Craig led the winning offense by going 4-5 with a double, three runs scored and a stolen base.
Gavin Bussard had three hits with a double and drove in a run for the Vikings. Luke Helton had two hits with a double and three RBI and Eric Hammer three hits and an RBI. Jay Meyers had two hits with a double and an RBI and Jesse Floor and Brandon Webster each had a hit and an RBI.
Meyers earned the pitching win as he went 6 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and seven walks.
Valley was scheduled to play in the Culver Academies Tournament today (May 14).
Softball Team Falls
The Valley softball team dropped a 10-8 final at Southwood in Three Rivers Conference play.
Katie Gunter and Amanda Shephered each had two hits, including a double, to lead the Vikings. Sydney Howard drove in a pair of runs for Valley.
Southwood scored five runs in the third inning to take the lead for good. Valley scored a pair in the first frame and once in the second to lead 3-0 early in the TRC contest. The teams combined for 14 errors, with each squad committing seven.
Bailey Lundmark had three hits and three RBI and notched the pitching win to lead Southwood.
Valley drops to 7-11 overall and goes to 1-5 in the TRC.
Valley’s scheduled doubleheader today (May 14) at Central Noble was cancelled due to the weather. The Vikings are scheduled to play at Manchester on Tuesday.
