Grace Softball: Lancers See Season End
WESTFIELD, Ind. – A 7-3 defeat by Grace’s softball team ended the Lady Lancers’ run in the NCCAA Regionals.
Oakland City swept Grace in the tournament, including Wednesday’s win at Grand Park.
Grace’s offense got into rhythm too late on Wednesday. Oakland City scored in four of the first five innings.
The Oaks (15-18) used four doubles to jumpstart their offense, including two doubles in the first inning.
Grace also aided Oakland City with two crucial errors, leading to four unearned runs in the first five innings.
The Lady Lancers struggled to produce baserunners in the middle portions of the game. Grace had three straight 1-2-3 innings in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
In the sixth, Hannah Herbster led off with a single. Sam Heim then unleashed a triple off the fence to score Grace’s first run. Two batters later, Chandler Elliott’s sacrifice fly scored Heim.
In Grace’s final at-bats in the seventh, Morgan Cody gave Grace hope with a one-out double down the left field line. On the next at-bat, Kati Gregory produced an RBI single. But Grace’s momentum ran out as a fly ball and a ground ball ended the inning and the game.
Gregory hit 2-for-3, and Herbster was 2-for-4 to lead Grace’s offense. Elliott started the game on the mound, and Allison Franklin ended it. Franklin struck out three and did not allow a run to score in 2.1 innings.
