KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — The 2017 Kosciusko County Lilly Endowment Community Scholars will be named in December 2016. Previous Lilly Endowment Community Scholars were announced in the spring of the year before they graduated high school. The change affects the program for all Indiana community foundations.
The advanced timeline is intended to give Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship recipients more time to make a college or university selection.
The Kosciusko County Community Foundation’s deadline for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship application will be at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 15. Kosciusko County high school seniors in the top 20 percent of their graduating class are invited to apply. A link to the online application will be available on the foundation’s website on Aug. 15. Guidance counselors will also have a link to the application to share with eligible applicants.
Applicants are encouraged to have taken the SAT or ACT exam prior to their application.
In Kosciusko County, the Kosciusko County Community Foundation recommends two recipients of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship to Independent Colleges of Indiana for final selection. The local process is “blind” in that committee members do not have access to student names when reviewing applications. Consideration for the scholarship is given to academics, community services, extracurricular involvement, work experience, references and essay responses.
The scholarships provide four-year, full-tuition to the recipients to attend their Indiana college or university of choice and are a result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education.
The deadlines for all other Community Foundation scholarships remain unchanged. Information about those opportunities can be found at www.KCFoundation.org/Scholarships.
