Lockett Earns Win For Caps On Birthday
CLINTON, IA. – The Fort Wayne TinCaps won their second game in a row on the road against the Clinton LumberKings and third consecutive overall, 4-2, on a sunny Tuesday afternoon at Ashford University Field.
Walker Lockett (W, 1-2), on his 22nd birthday, stymied Clinton for the first five innings. The right-hander held the LumberKings to two hits and two walks.
Fort Wayne (15-11) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning against Lukas Schiraldi (L, 2-2). First baseman Brad Zunica led off with a single and scored on a home run by center fielder Michael Gettys that hit the left-field foul pole. For the 20-year-old Gettys, it was his first homer of the season.
The TinCaps added to their lead with a run in the third and another in the fifth. In both frames the leadoff batter drew a walk and scored on a two-out hit. In the third, designated hitter Ty France smacked a single to plate third baseman Kodie Tidwell. Then in the fifth, second baseman Peter Van Gansen ripped a double to score right fielder Mason Smith.
Clinton (15-10) didn’t get on the board until the eighth when it scored two on a bases-loaded double from Logan Taylor. Emmanuel Ramirez (S, 1) put the tying runs on base in the ninth with a pair of walks but recovered to earn the save.
Fort Wayne and Clinton play again at 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
