Ollie M. Roberts
Ollie M. Roberts, 110, formerly of Columbia City, died at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Lutheran Life Villages at Pine Valley, Fort Wayne.
A centenarian plus 10, she was the oldest living person in the state of Indiana and 52nd oldest in the world.
She was born Jan. 17, 1906, in Garrett, Ky., a daughter of the late John H. and Elizabeth (Wireman) Neeley. She spent her formative years in Floyd County, Ky.
In 1933, she was united in marriage to Edward A. Hensley. He died in 1963. On Nov. 10, 1963, she married EP Joseph. He died in 1982.
After raising her children, she worked as a nurses’ aid for Little Company of Mary, San Pierre, for seven years and Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City.
An accomplished seamstress, she made dozens of quilts which now have become family heirlooms. She was a former member of the Pentecostal Church, Columbia City. She was also a former member of the Daughters of Rebekah (Rebekahs).
She is survived by her son, Paul E. Hensley (Barbara Joe) Welch, Mentone; a daughter, Barbara Jean McNulty, Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Myrtle England, Fort Wayne.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister and a son-in-law, Gerald McNulty.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 5. at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in the Nolt Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana or the donor’s church.
