Warsaw Boys Track: Tigers Just Keep On Winning
NAPPANEE – The Warsaw boys track team displayed its depth Thursday night.
The undefeated Tigers gained a plethora of points from second and third-place performances to notch two more Northern Lakes Conference wins.
Warsaw topped host NorthWood 75-57 and Plymouth 108-24 in the NLC triangular. The host Panthers beat the Pilgrims 79-53.
The Tigers took wins in seven events in the meet, but had plenty of second and third-place efforts in the victories. Warsaw, which has now won 39 straight NLC meets dating back to the 2011 season, improves to 7-0 overall and moves to 5-0 in league action this Spring.
Coach Matt Thacker’s strong team posted a quartet of winning performance on the track to beat a very strong NorthWood team.
Owen Glogovsky and Lucas Howett continued to lead the strong distance efforts for the Tigers. Glogovsky won the 1,600 in a time of 4:43.59 and Howett took first in the 3,200 in 10:10.71.
The Tigers also won two of the three relay events. The 4 X 100 team of Alijah Wade, Ross Armey, Will McGarvey and Brandon Reinholt took first in a time of 43.96. The 4 X 800 relay team of Gary Keyes, Trent Thompson, Xavi Ramirez and Zeb Hernandez won with a time of 8:51.87.

Also placing second for Warsaw were Reinholt (200), Hernandez (3,200), Thompson (800), Childers (discus), Luke Wilson (high jump), Rane Kilburn (long jump) and the 4 X 400 relay team of Armey, Kilburn, Landan Perry and Bishop Harrison.
The Tigers got third-place efforts from Reinholt (100), Wade (200), Perry (400), Ramirez (800), Glogovsky (3,200), William Robison (1,600) ad Brock Riley (high jump).
Bailey Gessinger had a huge night on the track for the host Panthers. The senior standout won the 100 (11.09), 200 (22.72) and 400 (50.33) events. Gessinger had led NorthWood to the Class B title at the Goshen Relays last Saturday, the first for the program in 16 years. Gessenger, who was a first-team All-NLC pick at running back in the fall for the Panthers on the football field, earned the High Point Award for Class B at the Goshen Relays after being a part of three winning relay teams and also claiming top honors in the 100-meter dash.
Derek Parker won the 110 hurdles in 15.09 and the 300 hurdles in 39.55 for the Panthers.
Plymouth sophomore Nate Patterson cleared 6-11 to claim first in the high jump competition. Patterson, who is in his first season competing for the Pilgrims after transferring from Rochester, went 7-0 at the Goshen Relays last weekend to tie the Relays record set in 1985.
Warsaw will host its own Max Truex Invitational tonight (April 29). Competition begins with the field events at 6 p.m. with the first track event slated for 6:30 p.m. The Tigers will then close out NLC and regular-season action next Wednesday (May 4) with a league triangular at Elkhart Memorial, along with Goshen. Warsaw will then host both the boys and girls NLC Championships on May 10.
