Triton Sports Wrap: April 29
Softball Loses To Pioneer In Extras
Triton held a 4-1 lead, only for Pioneer to tie the game and eventually win in extra innings Friday, 5-4, in Hoosier North Athletic Conference softball.
Triton posted four runs in the first aided by Nicole Sechrist’s two-run homer, her fourth bomb of the season. Just before that, Courtney Jennings doubled home two runs to put Triton on the board.
Pioneer battled back to tie the game in the fifth, started with a Katie Bingaman RBI double, followed by a Bailey Zarse RBI single and capped with a Haley Gleitz sacrifice fly.
Alexis Robinson brought the go-ahead run home in the eighth inning on an RBI single.
Both Bingaman and Jennings went the distance in the pitching circle, Bingaman striking out eight and Jennings five for their respective teams.
Triton will play both ECA and NorthWood in a double dip Saturday.
Baseball Run-Ruled By Valley
Tippecanoe Valley had its bats going and Gavin Bussard dealing on the mound in a 12-2 baseball in five innings Friday.
In a game made up from the awful early-April weather, Bussard was effective in tossing the complete game, giving up just three hits and striking out five while working around six walks. Bussard was solid at the dish as well, going 2-3 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base.
Eric Hammer had a double, triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, Jay Meyers and Luke Helton each drove in two, and Garrett Bell added three RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base.
Triton stats were not immediately provided.
Tippecanoe Valley is slated to play two Saturday at John Glenn while Triton will host North Judson in a Saturday doubleheader.
