Wawasee Tennis: Raiders Down Warriors
SYRACUSE — The Wawasee girls tennis team was back in action Tuesday night as Northridge came to town for a Northern Lakes Conference contest. The visiting Raiders left on the victorious side of a 4-1 decision.
Wawasee’s lone win of the night came from the No. 1 doubles court, where winning is starting to become an expectation.
Charity Parker and Kabrea Rostochak moved to 3-0 in NLC play with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Vannessa Raber and Mackenzie Kauffman.
“Solid doubles play from Charity and Kabrea tonight,” offered Wawasee coach Shane Staley of his top doubles team. “They’re really starting to work well as a doubles team.”
Madison Cooper and Brooke Fick took a 6-0, 6-3 loss at No. 2 doubles to sophomore tandem Jordan Kauffman and Victoria Oakes.
Wawasee dropped all of its singles contests as Meg Heinisch and Jazlyn Gehlhausen both fell in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Gehlhausen took the loss to Kylie Frauhiger at NO. 1 singles while Heinisch lost to Taylor Sellers at No. 3 singles. Peyton Rookstooll battled at No. 2 singles but would ultimately suffer a 6-2, 6-1 defeat to Chase Kieper.
Wawasee (2-4, 1-2) will play at Warsaw Thursday evening.
Northridge won the JV contest 5-4. Brianna Haessig picked up a win at No. 3 singles for Wawasee while three doubles team all grabbed victories as well. Courtney Larson and Kendra Doerr were victorious at No. 1 doubles, Diki Gomez and Riley Kunkle picked up the win at No. 2 doubles while Ashlie Hemphill and Lesley Tayagua won at No. 4 doubles.
Wawasee’s match from last Thursday with Manchester that was rained out will be played this Friday.
