Turnstone Hosting USABA Camps
FORT WAYNE – The United States Association of Blind Athletes, a member organization of the U.S. Olympic Committee and Turnstone are hosting a camp for visually impaired veterans, Tuesday-Thursday, April 26-28th.
USABA Mission: To enhance the lives of children, youth, adults and Veterans who are blind and visually impaired through competitive sport, recreation and physical activity. Goalball: A team sport played nationally and internationally by athletes with visual impairments. The Men’s national goalball team has been training full time at Turnstone since they moved here in October of 2015. This has allowed the team to strengthen their skills and work towards obtaining the gold medal in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. This week they are giving back by hosting a camp for visually impaired veterans.
Approximately 12 veterans are here to learn more about the sport of goalball and to work on their skills within the sport.
Some of the veterans will stay in Fort Wayne after the camp to take advantage of an Airgun clinic for veterans on Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at The X Count, 5301 Merchandise Drive, Fort Wayne.
There will be a goalboal camp viewing opportunity Wednesday from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Turnstone for anyone interested.
