Charles Steven Herkless, 66, Rochester, passed away at 12:10 a.m. on Friday April 22, 2016 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.
He was born on Feb. 3, 1950 in Rochester, the son of Heber C. and Margaret L. (Pyle) Herkless, Jr.
Steve worked as a concrete finisher and mason for many years while living in Jupiter, Fla. He returned to Rochester, in 1997 and had worked for Holiday Rambler. He was a member of the Operative Plasterer’s and Cement Mason’s International Association Local 692. He attended the First Baptist Church, Rochester, and in his free time he loved fishing, deep sea fishing and horse racing.
Survivors include his mother, Margaret Herkless, Rochester; sister, Julia and husband Dale Schroeder, Columbus; nephews: William Schroeder, Columbus; John and wife Kristen Schroeder, Bloomington; great nieces: Taylor and Bailey Schroeder, Columbus; great-nephew, Levi Schroeder, Bloomington; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Heber C. Herkless,Jr.
Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday April 26, at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester, with Dr. Mark Spencer officiating.
Arrangements are by Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester.
