Prince Dead At 57
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. — Legendary musician Prince has died at 57, his rep confirms to the Associated Press.
The tragic news comes just one week after a private jet carrying the singer was forced to make an emergency landing in Moline, Ill., where Prince was rushed to a nearby hospital and treated for the flu. A rep for the singer confirmed at the time that Prince had been flown home and was recovering after a brief hospitalization.
Prince’s cause of death was not immediately clear, but the Carver County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a death investigation is currently underway at Paisley Park, located just outside Minneapolis, Minn., where Prince’s recording studio is located.
Earlier this month, several reports indicated that Prince’s ongoing bout with the flu had caused him to postpone multiple concerts. In what would be his final performance, at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre on April 14, an eyewitness told ET that the superstar was “quick witted” and “had high energy.”
“He showed off his beautiful new purple Yamaha piano and a new custom guitar,” the source said. “He played briefly on the piano. The dance party was a great time, as usual.”
Just last year, Prince graced the stage with Sir Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, HAIM and Debbie Harry for an epic Saturday Night Live 40 after-party.
