Triton Sports Wrap: April 19
Baseball Moves Above .500
Triton moved to 4-3 on the season with an 8-5 win against Oregon-Davis Tuesday night at Keller Field.
The Trojans were cruising, up 8-1 heading into the seventh when the Dragons finally came to life. Starting pitcher Nate Flenar finally wore down, working an out in the seventh, but was touched up for four runs and O-D was still swinging. It took Ryan Snyder and Zac Pitney 14 pitches to get the final two outs, Pitney earning the save in nailing down the final two Dragons.
Keygan Mosier doubled and drove in three for Triton, and Max Slusser continued to swing a hot bat for Triton, ripping two doubles and three hits overall, scoring twice and driving in two.
Triton did its work in the first inning, scoring six runs and added a pair in the sixth, which ended up being big insurance runs.
Flenar got the win, striking out six but gave up seven hits and walked four. Cameron Clark took the loss for O-D, allowing eight hits and six walks, but fanned eight.
Trevor Risner had three hits and two RBIs for O-D.
Triton plays again Thursday at Caston.
Tennis Continues To Move And Shake
Triton won its third girls tennis match of the season via shutout, taking a 5-0 result over Triton Tuesday afternoon in Bourbon.
As has been the case this season in the shutouts, all five courts have been in straight sets. Quinn Downing led the way in singles play, winning at No. 3 by a 6-1, 6-1 score over Jackie Werstler. Shayla May took care of Morgan Keirn 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 and Kolbie Mason beat Delaney Keirn 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 singles.
Emma Ross and Hannah Wanemacher continued their solid play at No. 1 doubles, shutting out Natalie Iholtz and Jenna VanCuren while Tatum Thompson and Megan McFarland won another match at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-2 final against Lily Owsley and Brook Prater.
Triton won three of the four courts in JV action with Whitko.
Triton moves to 4-0 overall and will play its third match in three days Wednesday at home against LaVille. Whitko falls to 2-2 overall and also plays at home Wednesday against Rochester.
