Vikings Hammer Pioneer
It was “Hammer Time” for the Valley baseball squad Monday.
Viking ace Eric Hammer did it all to pace his team to a 1-0 home win over Pioneer.
Senior southpaw Hammer fired a no-hitter with 18 strikeouts on the hill. He also drove in the lone run of the contest, plating Gavin Bussard with the game winner with an RBI single in the first inning.
Luke Helton smacked a double in the first inning for the Vikings. Hammer, along with Bussard, Brandon Webster and Jesse Floor each had one hit for the winners.
Valley, now 4-0, hosts North Miami in its conference opener on Wednesday.
Golfers Post Win
Trevor Neeley led the Viking golf team to its first win of the season.
Neeley earned medalist honors with a 43 as the Vikings topped Knox 196-251 at the Round Barn Golf Course in Rochester.
Jeremy Julian and Cole Cumberland each shot a 49 for Valley, now 1-2. Kane Stellar fired a 55 and Chandler Newsome a 56 for the winners.
The Valley JV team topped Knox 252-333. John Young and Chris Schipper each had 56 to lead the JV Vikings. Noah Hoffman shot a 58, while Bryce Madeford had a 66 and Bryston Canada a 72.
Valley hosts North Miami and Caston on Thursday at Round Barn.
