Registration Open For Yeager 5K
WINONA LAKE – The fifth annual Tracey Yeager Memorial 5K will be held the morning of Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, at the Senior Center at Winona Lake Park. The TYM5K was established in honor of local resident Tracey Yeager, who lost her life to cancer in 2010.
Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom veteran and Navy fighter pilot Steven Fuchs will be the event’s featured speaker, continuing a race custom of tributes to U.S. military veterans from World War II and Vietnam War conflicts through today. The pre-race presentation will begin at 9 a.m. and is free and open to the public.
Veterans who wish to participate in the 5K may register at no cost for this family-friendly race. Volunteers and past or present clients of Fellowship Missions also race free. Otherwise, advance registration for individuals is $20, and $60 for a family of four or more. Register online at www.tym5k.com or at 7:45 a.m. the morning of the race. For more information, call Elle Turley at (574) 371-1723.
The 2016 race includes a new partnership between the TYM5K Run/Walk and Warsaw’s Fellowship Missions to host the first “Soles for Souls” shoe and sock drive. New or gently-used athletic shoes and socks may be donated in support Warsaw’s homeless, on the day of the race or during the week of the event. Donations may be delivered to the SYM Financial Advisors office at 801 Park Ave, Winona Lake, or brought on Memorial Day to the Fellowship Missions tent at Winona Park.
Tracey Yeager graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1990, serving as Naval Officer and flying CH-46 helicopters. She earned the rank of Lieutenant before resigning in 1999 to pursue her calling as wife and mother. Tracey’s passion for faith, family, friends, fitness and fellowship led the family to create the Memorial Day 5K as an honor to her legacy. All race proceeds benefit Tracey’s Trails, a charitable organization that creates and supports opportunities for accessible outdoor recreation in the Warsaw and Winona Lake communities.
