Local Businesses Team Up For Clean Up
PIERCETON — Paragon Medical, Inc. and the Pierceton Woods Academy teamed up on April 13, to clean up the areas in and around their respective campuses in Pierceton. Paragon initiated this effort in 2014 and decided to invite other area businesses to participate this year, in which the Pierceton Woods Academy gladly accepted.
A total of 17 bags of trash were collected and hauled off. In addition to the “typical” items you would find in an effort like this, the group also ran across an entire car bumper and over 100 Frappuccino bottles that had losing lottery tickets in them.
Paragon provided the pickup sticks, bottled water and breakfast and lunch for the volunteers. Kosciusko County Solid Waste District provided needed supplies for the effort including safety vests, litter pickup road signs, and trash bags. They also provided wildflower pods which are ping pong sized pods made from old newspapers that are infused with wildflower seeds. Wildflowers will grow wherever these pods are tossed.
In addition to the trash pickup effort and the wildflower pods, grass seed was planted at the corner of SR 13 and Matchett Drive in an effort to improve the look of the ditch.
