Tennis Swings With Quality Comps
Triton was given the opportunity to see how it stacks up against some finer tennis competition from the region, and fared OK in placing sixth out of eight teams.
Triton scored 13 points, well off the pace of Fairfield’s championship 34 points, but played without it No. 1 singles player in Shayla May, who was on a school senior trip.
In her stead, Siera Sauer stepped in and finished eighth, losing to Marian 7-6 (4), 6-0 and then to Centerville and Columbia City.
Kolbie Mason at No. 2 beat Columbia City 6-2, 7-6 (5), then lost to Michigan City and Plymouth to finish fourth.
Quinn Downing at No. 3 lost to Centerville 6-1, 6-3, came back to beat Peru and lost to Michigan City to finish sixth.
Emma Ross and Hannah Wanemacher at No. 1 doubles lost to Fairfield 6-3, 6-3, then beat Columbia City and Marian to finish fifth.
Tatum Thompson and Megan McFarland at No. 2 doubles beat Peru love and love then lost to Marian and Fairfield to finish fourth.
Triton will host Rochester Monday afternoon.
Trojan Nine Take Two
Triton’s baseball bats were red hot Saturday in a doubleheader at West Central. Picking up a pair of Hoosier North Athletic Conference games, Triton rolled 24-1 and 12-2 over the host Trojans.
Things got out of hand quickly in game one, led by two-run jacks from Zac Pitney and Adam Stevens.
Triton also worked the run-rule in game two, taking a 11-0 lead after three innings.
Triton moves to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the HNAC. Up next is a home contest Tuesday at Keller Field against Oregon-Davis.
