Tippecanoe Valley Sports Wrap: April 16
Tippy Baseball Controls Bremen
Tippecanoe Valley put pressure on Bremen early and often Saturday in winning both games of a twin bill, 6-0 and 13-8 on the baseball diamond under the shadow of the wind turbine.
Game one saw Tippecanoe Valley get three runs in the first inning and tack on two more in the fourth and one in the fifth. The runs were more than enough as the combo of starter Luke Helton and Hunter Early allowed just one hit.
Eric Hammer and Garrett Bell doubled for Valley, and Brett Louderback had Bremen’s only hit, a double.
In game two, Bremen would figure out the bats with 10 hits, but couldn’t keep up with Valley’s offense. Valley scored the final five runs of the game in the fifth and sixth innings, doing so with just seven hits.
Gavin Bussard and Hammer each doubled for the Vikings.
Alec Craig got the win in relief of Jay Meyers, with Early shutting the door in the seventh.
Valley moves to 3-0 on the year, with its next contest Monday at home against Pioneer.
Valley Softball Sweeps Glenn, But Barely
Tippecanoe Valley pulled the double Saturday at John Glenn, but really had to work for the two softball wins.
Tippy held a 9-2 lead in game one before getting pushed to the brink of a 13-12 final. In game two, Sydney Howard had the walk-off RBI to give Tippy a 17-16 win.
Howard also had a three-run double in game two, but the heroics wouldn’t have come if Raechel Torpy didn’t connect on a two-out single to tie the game in the seventh. Howard finished with three hits and four RBIs in the game and teammates Abby Betten and Amanda Shepherd each had four hits and combined for eight runs and five RBIs.
Torpy and Kayla Scott combined for six hits and five RBIs in game one, and Shepherd added two hits and three RBIs.
The doubleheader saw both teams combine for 59 hits and 27 errors.
Tippecanoe Valley moves to 4-3 overall, set to go back to work Tuesday at Culver Academy.
