Wawasee Baseball: Norwell Smashes Warriors In Five
SYRACUSE — The Wawasee baseball team was back in action Friday night.
The Warriors welcomed in No. 4 Norwell and the Knights backed up their ranking with a 16-5 road victory in five innings.
A two-RBI double with on out in the top of the second from Quentin Middleton put the Knights on the board. The flood gates opened after that as Norwell went on to score six more times in the frame. The Warriors cut the lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the third but would see the deficit grow to 16-1 by the time the bottom of the fifth rolled around. Wawasee would rally for four runs in the fifth but could not avoid the 10-run rule.
Jairus Boyer went 2-2 at the plate and scored a pair of runs for Wawasee. Chase Rookstool had a pair of RBIs and scored a run while Harrison Shortill knocked in two RBIs as well for the home team.
Gavin Bontrager took the loss for the Warriors with four earned runs, two walks and one strikeout.
