Triton Sports Wrap: April 14
Softball Gets It Right
Triton earned its first win of the season Thursday, beating Goshen 11-9 at Keyser Field.
In a rare matchup between the two clubs, Nicole Sechrist hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and drove in five runs in all.
Taytum Hargrave doubled and scored three runs for Triton (1-1), and Kaci Pugh added two more hits after notching three in Wednesday’s contest at Valley. Megan Berger added two hits for Triton.
Hannah Woodard notched her first varsity win in the circle despite shaky numbers. In five innings, Woodard gave up 10 hits and seven runs, but had the offense behind her to make the numbers stand up. Courtney Jennings fanned three in two innings of relief.
Triton will visit Rochester Friday in a matchup of state-ranked teams. Triton is No. 12 in the 1-A poll and Rochester is No. 20 in the 2-A poll.
In a JV note, the matchup at Culver Academy scheduled for May 17 has been bumped up to May 2.
Golfers Continue Early Success
Triton moved to 3-0 in the early going on the golf course, besting Culver 176-211 at Mystic Hills.
Greg Music and Isaac Wall each paced the Trojans with 43s and Jordan Anderson was one stroke back at 44. Blake Swihart finished at 46 and Beau Hepler ended at 50 for the Trojans.
The JV were almost 100 strokes better than Culver, winning 198-297. Spencer Johnson again played well, carding a 44 to lead the Triton JV.
The Trojans are scheduled to play again next Wednesday in a three-way with LaVille and host Knox.
Pilgrims Down Trojan Baseball
A ten-spot in the third inning was the difference for Plymouth Thursday, cruising to a 15-4 home win over Triton baseball.
Braydon Davidson and Justin Drudge each drove in two wins and scored a pair for the Pilgrims. Cam Eveland got the win on the mound, working four innings. Keygan Mosier was saddled with the loss for Triton, unable to get out of trouble in the third.
Triton’s offense was led by a homer from Dylan Hensley.
Triton (2-2) will travel to West Central Saturday for a doubleheader.
