John W. Haworth
John W. Haworth 68, Rochester, passed away unexpectedly at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday April 12, 2016, at his home. John was a lifelong Rochester resident.
He was born on Sept. 8, 1947, in Rochester, the son of Max and Martha (Dreher) Haworth, the youngest brother of four siblings. John graduated from Rochester High School in 1966. He was a retired third generation building contractor.
John started his own contracting business in 1971 at the age of 23. In his profession, John was known for his skilled perfection. His work ethic was impeccable.
In John’s younger school days, he enjoyed spending time at the local roller rink with friends. He later found the love of the game of pool. In high school, he was known as “the local shark”. He spent many happy hours at the Chalk N Cue.
On May 4, 1968, in Rochester, he married his high school sweetheart Kate Young, who survives. John and Kate enjoyed working together renovating their one hundred plus year old home, as well as cultivating a beautiful landscape to set it off. They enjoyed traveling together with their family and later with friends or just each other. John was an avid dog lover since his childhood. He had many throughout his life. Most recently, John enjoyed his time spent with his beagle, Marley.
After John’s retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his many friends. He had his “Breakfast” pals and his afternoon McDonald’s coffee pals. Many “world problems” were solved at those gatherings!
John is survived by two daughters who were the love of his life: Anne Marie (Mark) McGriff, Greenwood; Jennifer (Brian) Richter, Rochester; three grandchildren who brought him much joy: Nicolas Richter; Blake Richter, Rochester; Hannah McGriff, Greenwood; three brothers: Bill (Norma) Haworth, Naperville, Ill.; Bob (Linda) Haworth, Rochester; Tom Haworth, West Lafayette; several nieces; nephews; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Dickie L. Haworth; and mother-in-law: Anne Allison.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester, with Rev. Junior Bose officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fulton County Animal Adoption and Education Center or to Compassionate Health Care.
