Warsaw Softball: Chargers Overcome
HUNTERTOWN – For the second night in a row, Warsaw held a softball lead only for it to dissolve into a loss. The Tigers held a 2-0 lead on host Fort Wayne Carroll, only to give up four unanswered runs to lose 4-2 Wednesday evening.
Warsaw plated a pair of runs in the first, with Sarah Shoemaker leading off the game with a walk and coming around to score on a Grace Johnson base hit. Taylor Sleeth added an RBI in the inning, giving Warsaw the early 2-0 lead. The Tigers would leave the bases loaded in the inning, which would become huge later on.
Carroll then chipped away with a run in the third and fourth to tie matters, then brought home two in the sixth for the eventual winner. Kirsten Landez and Kaylie Schlotter drove in the final two runs, Schlotter with two RBIs in the game to go with a pair of walks. Shannon Cooke scored two runs for Carroll.
Shoemaker doubled to open the seventh, but was left there as Warsaw went down in order behind her.
Courtney Chookie tossed six innings for Warsaw, giving up seven hits and four walks, striking out four. Landez had to work, throwing 124 pitches but struck out 14, including the final two outs of the game.
Warsaw (0-4) will host Columbia City Saturday morning.
