Whitko Sports Wrap: April 12
Boys Track Team Wins Two
The Whitko boys track team defeated Tippecanoe Valley (38) and North Miami (19) Tuesday evening with its score of 99.
Josh Wright and Garrett Elder each won a pair of events for the Wildcats. Wright took first in both the 1600 and 3200 while Elder took first in the 100 meter dash and long jump.
Alex Morales (110 hurdles), Brady Weeks (300 hurdles), Dillon Alma (800), Walker Hobbs (shot), Gavin Howard (disc) and Zach Freel (high jump) all won individual events for the Wildcats. Whitko’s 4×100 and 4×800 relays also took first.
Golf Team Falls
The Whitko golf team shot a 198 Tuesday night, finishing behind Columbia City (145) and Churubusco (181). Tim Gensch and Grady Clingerman led Whitko, each shooting a 48. Cade Bechtold shot a 50 and Kaleb Busz signed for a 52.
Whitko will host Southwood Thursday evening.
Girls Track Team Splits
The girls track team split its triangular with North Miami and Tippecanoe Valley. Whitko scored 55, good enough to best Valley (38) but falling just short of North Miami (60).
Caitlyn Reed took first in the 100 meter dash and high jump while Brigit Nemitz won both the 1600 and 3200.
Quinn Craig grabbed first in the 300 hurdles and Suzanne Sickafoose won the 400.
Whitko’s 4×400 relay also finished first.
Softball Team Slugs South Side
The Whitko softball team dominated visiting Fort Wayne South Side Tuesday night.
Andrea Snavley picked up the win in the circle and recorded five punch outs as the team won 11-1.
Emmy Duggins recorded a triple and had two RBIs while Emily Day had three RBIs. Hanna Yohe recorded two doubles and added six strikeouts in her time in the circle.
Whitko will travel to West Noble Wednesday night.
