Local Republican Responds To Trump
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — In light of increasing controversy surrounding Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, Ink Free News reached out to several local Republicans to find out how they feel about his campaign. Two responded and one agreed to discuss his opinions.
Attempts to contact other local Republicans were unsuccessful.
Ink Free News first asked, “Do you believe Donald Trump’s campaign is dividing the Republican party?” Mike Ragan responded.
“He is not necessarily dividing the Republican party at all,” Ragan said. “So many people are upset and angry about what’s going on in Washington, they’re angry about Obamacare and the powers that be aren’t doing anything about it and we see the country going down the tubes and that’s why people are rallying around Trump.”
While Ragan does not necessarily favor Trump, he will show support if Trump wins the nomination.
“He wasn’t my favorite candidate to begin with and I’m not saying he’s my favorite now, but if he’s who the Republican party chooses, I’ll definitely be behind him enthusiastically.”
Ragan added that he feels Trumps often controversial style may be what piques voters’ interest again.
“He’s probably good for the party. We need to be shaken up. Just like I said, we had Romney and we had McCain and we had Dole; these are establishment candidates. It’s the same ol’ same ol’. We need another (Ronald) Reagan. When Reagan was president, people were inspired. They were fired up. There was nationalism and we need a president who will bring that back and we really haven’t had that like Reagan since Reagan and maybe Donald Trump can do that.”
