Vehicle Destroyed By Fire After Accident
CLAYPOOL — The driver and passenger in a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer escaped with minor injuries after the vehicle they occupied rolled and then caught fire Sunday evening. The accident was at 9:39 p.m. Sunday, April 2, on South CR 450W, north of West CR 525S, Claypool.
Kyle W. Hamman, 17, West CR 525S, Claypool, and a passenger in his vehicle, Allie A. Thompson, 17, West CR 400N, Warsaw, both suffered abrasions to the knees, lower leg area and were taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital. The driver of a second vehicle, Kaleb Hobbs, 24, South Scott Road, Claypool, declined medical treatment at the scene.
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department reports Hamman was northbound on CR 450W in the area of CR 525S, in a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer. When Hamman’s vehicle crested a hill it struck the southbound 1999 Chrysler driven by Hobbs. After impact the Haman vehicle rolled onto its passenger side and caught fire. When police arrived at the scene the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.
Neither driver could tell police if either one of them were in the appropriate lane of travel at the time of impact. Also struck was a Kosciusko REMC pole.
Damage was estimated up to $25,000.
