Hamman Arrested On Battery Charges
WARSAW — A Mentone resident is in jail after allegedly pouring a pot of hot stew down his wife’s back during an argument.
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department received a call Wednesday, March 30, from Kosciusko Community Hospital about a domestic battery victim. The victim had initially told nurses a pot of boiling stew had fallen on her back. However, doctors did not feel the injuries were consistent with her story.
Officer Neil Likens spoke with the victim, who admitted she and her husband, Seth Hamman, 32, 4395 S. Lakeshore Drive, Mentone, had been in an argument when Hamman became angry and dumped a pot of hot stew on her back. The victim told Likens she fell to the floor from the pain, striking and possibly breaking her wrist.
Likens spoke with Hamman, who refused to answer questions and refused to cooperate with police. He told sheriff’s officer Shawn Castillo that the victim had thrown a plate of food at him and he had attempted to block it, knocking the stew onto her back.
Officers arrested Hamman and charged him with aggravated battery causing a substantial risk of death and serious permanent disfigurement and domestic battery resulting in bodily injury. He was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail with bond set at $20,000 surety and $1,000 cash.
A no-contact order has been issued against Hamman.
