Owens Sentenced For Child Molesting
WARSAW — “May the wrath of God be on you for harming a child,” condemned a relative of the victim.
Dustin Edward Owens, 42, 10402 S. SR 15, Silver Lake, was sentenced today to 30 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections on count I child molesting, a class A felony. He was also given a 110 day jail-time credit. Owen’s must register as sex offender for the rest of his life.
Owens sat in the Superior Court I courtroom and listened to the censure and condemnation from his victim and those who care for her with an expressionless face. Each of the witnesses told the judge how the minor victim has always been full of “sparkle” and how Owens stole that from her and she will never again be the same. A result from the molestation was the victim giving birth to Owen’s child.
Superior Court I Judge David Cates, offered the minor encouragement by telling her she handled herself well, given the situation and he hoped she and her child would grow past this experience and become productive members of the community.
“What you’ve done here is reprehensible,” Cates told Owens, “You took away a childhood. There is no one in this courtroom who does not find that to be disgusting.”
