Police Chase Ends With Two In Custody, One At Large
WARSAW — What started as a traffic stop, ended with a police pursuit. Two individuals were taken into custody and according to the report, the driver escaped police.
Warsaw Police Officer Ross Minear attempted to make a traffic stop of a vehicle, police later learned was driven by Travis J. Johnson, 39, North Sherman Street, Warsaw. According to the accident report, Johnson’s vehicle was traveling westbound in the alleyway between East Main Street and East Fort Wayne Street during the pursuit. While Johnson’s vehicle was traveling through the alley, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a NIPSCO pole with the driver’s side mirror. The rear wheel of the vehicle drove over the guide wire causing the rear axle to move toward the rear of the vehicle.
Once the vehicle came to rest, passengers Erika Nichols and Christopher Spalding were taken into custody. Johnson fled from the scene on foot and officers were unable to locate him. Nichols and Spalding identified the driver as Johnson.
Police attempted to contact the registered owner of the vehicle, William Elliot Jr., however, no contact could be made. No insurance information was located inside the vehicle.
Damage was estimated up to $5,000.
