Elizabeth Jane ‘Ebby’ Leach
Elizabeth Jane “Ebby” Leach, 92, North Webster, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse, where she has resided since 2008. She was born on April 6, 1923, in Andrews, to Walter Irvin and Lela Mae (Bare) Gradeless.
She graduated in 1942 from Chester High School in North Manchester and received her Licensed Practical Nurse Degree at Marion College (Indiana Wesleyan University) in Marion, IN. She was married on April 17, 1949, in Pierceton, to Harold A. Leach who preceded her in 1995. She grew up in Huntington County and moved to the North Webster area in 1960 from Wabash. She worked as a nurse for the V.A. Hospital in Fort Wayne, for many years.
She was a member of the Church of God in North Webster and former member of the Backwater Friends Home Economic Club. Elizabeth enjoyed reading, gardening, and attending church.
She is survived by nine nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her her parents; husband; daughter: Alice Rodgers; son: Walter Leach; two sisters: Illa Stentsel; Rebecca Gradeless; two brothers: Charles and Harmon Gradeless; stepsister: Martha Menzie; and two stepbrothers: Charles and Marion Collier.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, March 28, at Owen Family Funeral Home, North Webster. Funeral services will follow at noon Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Boyer and Pastor Tim Jones of the church officiating. Burial will be in Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery.
