Baker, Lakers See Tourney Run End
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Lindsay Baker and her Grand Valley State University basketball team saw its amazing postseason run come to a close Wednesday night.
The Lakers lost a 67-47 final to No. 4 Alaska Anchorage in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
Baker, a former standout at WCHS, scored nine points for the Lakers. The junior guard hit 3-7 from 3-point range in 20 minutes of action in the Final Four contest.
GVSU saw its string of four upsets of higher-seeded teams in the tournament end with a loss to the No. 2 seed. The Lakers were the No. 7 seed in the Midwest Region.
Alaska Anchorage, which improves to 38-2, will play No. 1 Lubbock Christian (34-0) in the national championship game on Monday, April 4 in Indianapolis.
Alaska Anchorage led 19-12 after the opening quarter and stretched its lead to 37-21 by halftime Wednesday night. The winners shot 54.5 percent from the field and hit 8-17 from distance. The Lakers shot just 31.9 percent from the field and made just 6-25 shots from deep.
Taylor Parmley, a redshirt freshman from Mishawaka, led the Lakers with 13 points.
Former Penn High School standout Taylor Lutz had eight points for GVSU. The junior guard also had six assists and three steals.
All 11 players who played for the Lakers Wednesday night are slated to return next season. GVSU finishes with a 26-10 mark with the 26 wins being the third highest in program history.
