Grand Valley State Hoops In Final Four
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Grand Valley State University women’s basketball team, which includes former Warsaw standout Lindsay Baker, is just one win away from playing for a national championship.
The Lakers are set to play No. 4 Alaska Anchorage tonight in the Final Four of the NCAA Division II Tournament. The game, which will be televised by the CBS Sports Networ, is set for a 9:30 p.m. EST tip-off.
Grand Valley State earned a spot in the semifinals of the national tournament thanks to a thrilling 59-56 win over No. 19 Pittsburg State Tuesday night in the Elite Eight.
The Lakers, who are 26-9, won their fourth tournament game Tuesday night as the underdog. GVSU held Pittsburg State to a season-low point total in the win. Taylor Parmley, a redshirt freshman from Mishawaka, led the winners with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Parsley, who notched her first career double-double, hit two free throws with 16 seconds to play for the final points.
Baker, a junior guard for the Lakers, had two points and one rebound in 11 minutes of action Tuesday night. Baker, who is a 2013 WCHS graduate who played her first collegiate season at Toledo before transferring to GVSU, was one of just seven players to play for the Lakers Tuesday night.
Former Penn High School standout Taylor Lutz had seven points and five rebounds in the win Tuesday night. Lutz is a junior guard for the Lakers.
The first semifinal tonight pits Bentley versus Lubbock Christian at 7 p.m.. The winners tonight will play in the national championship game in Indianapolis on April 4. Bentley and Lubbock Christian are No. 1 seeds, while Alaska Anchorage is a two seed and GVSU a seven seed.
GVSU has played in the Final Four one other time in program history. The Lakers won a national championship in 2006.
