Marandet Honored For Stellar Showing
WARSAW – Paul Marandet was magnificent on Saturday.
The Warsaw star guard has been honored too for his simply sensational pair of performances in the regional.
Marandet, who led the Class 4-A No. 5 Tigers to the title at Michigan City, was saluted today as the IBCA/Subway Player of the Week for District 1.
Marandet, a 6-0 senior, poured in a career-high 37 points in a 79-74 double-overtime win over South Bend Riley in the regional semifinal clash. He was 8-14 from the field and 21-21 from the free throw line in the thriller. Marandet, who played all 40 minutes in the game, also had four rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Marandet came back in the regional final and was outstanding again. He popped in 18 points, including his team’s first 10 of the game, as the Tigers sidelined Crown Point 46-33. Marandet went 5-7 from the field, including 1-1 from distance, and 7-8 from the line in the victory. He also had a team-high seven rebounds to go with three assists.
Marandet shared the Player of the Week honor with Eugene German of Gary 21st Century. The 6-0 senior guard led his team to two wins to claim the title of the Class 1-A Triton Regional on Saturday. German had 24 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in a 74-62 semifinal win over the host Trojans. The Northern Illinois recruit then poured in 40 points in an 82-66 win over South Newton in the regional title tilt.
Marandet will lead the Tigers into the Class 4-A North Semistate game on Saturday. The Tigers, who are 25-1, will face No. 4 McCutcheon (27-3) at 6:45 p.m. at Lafayette Jefferson High School. The winner will earn a spot in the Class 4-A state championship game on March 26 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
